I started learning and playing piano from an early age, and have been teaching music for over thirty years. More than anything I strive to introduce my students to the beauty of music, and approach them with the same amount of passion and enthusiasm. I try to make the learning experience as fun as possible, while ensuring progress. I am very positive and my biggest priority is to make my students happy and make sure they enjoy every lesson. I began teaching because to me, nothing is more beautiful than watching someone's love for music bloom in front of me, to allow someone to find a vessel through music. Therefor, it's important to me that each student goes at their own pace, and strive to tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. It's important to me that in each lesson we cover 3 important sections, theory, performance, and technique. Read More

With my wind instrument and percussion students, I like to start with a method book. My favorites include Essential Elements and Standard of Excellence. I find that, especially for younger students, this is a great way to introduce beginner theory while learning to apply it to their playing. I spend a great deal of time discussing the importance of breath and practicing breathing gym exercises. My piano method book of choice varies depending on the skill level of the student. Read More

Before teaching I was always sharing ideas and my approach with my peers and anyone who wanted to listen. My jump into teaching music as a job started after high school teaching drum lessons at Music & Arts and All About Music & Arts in the Houston area. After teaching at Marching Percussion camps for Memorial High School and Waltrip High School among others I decided to go back to college at Blinn in Brenham. Read More

I like to get an idea from the student and the parent what their expectations are for music lessons. From there, the student and I come up with musical goals to accomplish for that year. We create a practice schedule based on the student's school and extracurricular activities and try to follow that schedule as much as possible. I also like to incorporate other styles of music such as popular Broadway pieces and Contemporary pieces into the student's repertoire so that they can have greater diversity in their piano playing or singing.
