 Music is a very physical thing as well as a very abstract thing.  In my lessons, there will be kennistetic learning through movement as well as teaching through sensation. Using tools like Solfege it helps create muscle memory and tuning. Piano students will learn a wealth of theory knowledge, correct posture and fingering patterns. With beginning children in clarinet, we will start with the book they are currently using in band (typically essential elements or tradition of excellence). Once the basics have been grasped, we move on to method books with the choice of Rose or Rubank (depending on the student's skill level). Scales and arpeggios are also practiced every day and seen as a prerequisite to every practice session.
