We explore different song styles and different exercises that speak to each individual student. I also believe in regularly providing constructive criticism and encouragement for each student's accomplishments. The more you inspire your student, the more driven they become. Attending Master Clases and Concerts helped me achieve a maturity level of teaching piano throughout my years in Cuba, Poland and The United States. Each student develops at their own pace. To improve quickly, practice is very necessary.  To improve slowly, lessons may be what guides your practice time. It is up to the student (and parent).  I like to keep the pace moving, but repeat as much as necessary to build a firm foundation. I definitely work with the music that you are interested in and want to perform. In the first lesson, my teacher taught me the theme from The Simpsons, and I was sold. It would be years before I would actually become competent at turning notes on a page into something musically expressive, but that day I went home knowing I had found something special, and that inertia has carried me to where I am today. Students learn basic music material rhythmic awareness and basic reading during the first two years, while the fundamentals of music theory and form are stressed in years three and four. Students continue the work begun in the elementary coursework, including more advanced sight-reading. The repertoire is expanded to include longer selections. My teaching style involves setting realistic goals and making sure the environment is fun and invigorating. I always like to make sure I am teaching my students what they want to learn, but I do occasionally challenge them by assigning more advanced material that I envision them performing or think would be beneficial to them.
