I also introduce "Piano Improvisation" by Frank Caruso, a top Jazz book where you start playing blues and continue with jazz. I also introduce the Jazz series from the ABRSM , a graded program with five books from beginner to advanced. For Jazz repertoire I use "Hearing the changes" by Coker knapp and Vincent, where you learn to memorize close to 500 tunes by ear , classified by their chord changes. After lesson 99 of the Bayer method I introduce "Preparatory exercises in score reading" by R.O.Morris where a more Baroque repertoire is introduced along with reading in the C clefs, a rather challenging book for those who aspire to climb the higher grades of learning to read from an orchestral score. My principles of pedagogy are based on performing and teaching. I have crafted my own method, especially for children. Thos ,ethod help to train ears while teaching proper posture and technique, which leads to correct concentration and reflection. During my lessons I always demonstrate my playing. Seeing my students develop a passion for music is very rewarding. Each student progresses to their own pace; no rush whatsoever. Setting goals that they can achieve will encourage them to progress on track. Acknowledging their accomplishments will keep their desire to continue learning more. I recommend that when they practice, to have them play it for an audience, like family or friends. That way they can be comfortable playing for others because when they are put into recitals, Student Day, the National Guild of Piano Teachers, etc. they'll be able to play at ease, and at the same time, enjoy it too. It is rewarding to teach piano.  If a student is really interested in learning, it is such a pleasure.  If they are young, I usually use a book that includes cartoons between lessons.  For adults I use an adult book, but try to include a solo that they can handle that relates to a season or something they are interested in playing.
