For my beginning classical music students, I require four inexpensive keyboard books for learning and skills. I use the John Thompson series for basic learning. A notespeller by Alfred is used for theory. In addition, I use two other study books. The Alfred Technic book is aimed at measurably increasing a student's skill at the keyboard. I also use a recital book for extracurricular study. As my piano students progress with their lessons, they graduate into more difficult levels of these needed books. Read More

Hobby students are encouraged to practice 20-30 minutes 4-5 days per week. For more serious students, the practice expectation is 45-60 minutes per day, 5-6 days per week. YEARS 8+: ADVANCED LEVEL This level of playing is equivalent to a college music major or someone who takes their music study very seriously. My students arrange, compose and even improvise music at the highest level required for any classical musician. Hobby students are encouraged to practice for 30-40 minutes 4-5 days per week. I have an interactive yet focused style of teaching. I can(but don't recommend) to use the Suzuki method. I feel that all aspects related to the instruments weigh much importance in teaching the student. However, with the Suzuki method, the student's primary focus is to learn pieces rapidly and climb the level of difficulty as fast as possible. This prevents him/her to fully understand and analyze the piece and lesson and it can also turn the student away from pursuing the instrument further.  Read More

For piano I use a combination of the Bastien books, if you are a beginner. For more intermediate or advanced I use whatever music the student is interested in. It could be the Great American Songbook or classical music. For percussion, for beginners I use the Garwood Whaley book, Fundamentals for the Snare Drum.
