For instance, violin is a difficult instrument to play and it can take months of practice to play a simple tune. However, it can be fun and enjoyable as long as it is understood that these simple accomplishments in playing the violin are in fact rather big ones. For my younger learners I use elements of the Orff and Suzuki Technique, balanced with a play-based approach. The main feedback I get from parents is kids forward to my lessons because I do lots of games, use a light approach, and are always very encouraging. The most important aspect is keeping kids motivated. I believe reading music important, but only one part of playing music. We learn to speak before we learn to read, and I believe in encouraging kids to listen, improvise, and explore the keyboard. Read More

Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
