Hello & Hola! My real name is Felipe V. but everyone calls me Phil, I am a guitar player originally from Chile but now living in the USA. As you saw on my main page I dedicate most of my time doing Touring work with bands but I am also available for session work and some guitar classes so feel free to reach out to me if you think I can help you. My guitar playing is based on feeling, so every note that I play or write on a song has some meaning to me, I am not going to play whatever just to fill up space in your record or live shows. Keeping in mind that I am from Chile, I have a different spice in my sound that you can find in Latin American artists. I am a big fan of Cumbia, Bachata, and dancing rhythms that you don’t commonly find in the USA. I’ve been playing guitar for almost 15 years now. From small gigs to big venues, from using in ears and click to just playing by ear, my specialty is Pop, Rock, Metal, and Punk; but that doesn’t mean that I can’t play a country gig or Spanish/Latin American kind of gig. Feel free to reach out no matter the genre, and I may surprise you! Before teaching in California I've been teaching privately for the past 3 years in Minnesota helping students to achieve their goals with the instruments from playing and singing at the same time to playing full solos and gaining finger independence avoiding injuries and guiding them to a fun and challenging way of playing. I've been teaching guitar for the past 4 years now, and I like to focus on a fun way of learning I achieve that by starting to learn songs right away no matter what level you have on guitar, we explore your favorites artists and I plan my class around that, teaching you chords progressions, scales, improvisation, how to read music, how to read tablatures, finger independence all of this keeps the class fun while learning all the information needed to be proficient with the instrument, we can go from a basic understanding of the guitar to a professional level.
My method is a mix of theory and practice that we apply in every lesson, I prepare my material and provide everything to you to bring back home and practice when I am not around so after every class, you will have some homework to keep advancing in your journey when I am not around. Depending on your level, we start with the basics and start scaling to more advanced topics, we start from the beginning to build up your setlist so after your first few months you should be ready to do your first show, that could be in front of your family or if you wanna prepare for a real show we work towards that as well.
My teaching style is fun and relaxed but still making sure that you are learning something new in every class, I was a beginner at some point and it brings me joy seeing how the students discover the guitar for the first time because it reminds me of myself when I was just learning. I help set realistic goals to keep the student motivated and guide the student to reach small achievements every week so they can see how fast they can progress with private classes. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.
