For piano, I typically start of using Faber Piano Adventures paired with Edna Burnam's "A Dozen A Day." I like pairing the traditional lesson book - which focuses on the fundamentals and using familiar tunes to teach basic theory, note recognition, early technique, etc. with the Burnam exercises which gives the student tools to start incorporating other musical elements into their playing because these exercises become a warm-up routine instead of something to be checked off of a list. I began teaching private music lessons a decade ago as an undergraduate music student. Working at a community music school, I volunteered to teach piano lessons and lead the choir. I fell in love with teaching and after receiving my Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance, I began teaching private lessons and directing the commercial vocal ensemble at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville. While working at Trevecca, I taught many different genres of music to music majors, music minors, and elective students. Read More

Proper voice leading, and legato movements are also ways in which to help communicate the musical idea Read More

During a typical lesson I will hear the pieces my student was practicing the week before, make corrections or suggestions and have them play the piece again. Then I will assign them new pieces and have them play through them making sure they understand what to do and explaining any new concepts and giving suggestions on how to practice. As the students get more advanced I will also have them play scales andexercises and have them work out of a theory book. Read More

Michael Aaron Piano Courses for children and adults had usually proven a good start for piano lessons. Sometimes, a student will need something other than a method book: I will then personally design a program for them based on the way in which they assimilate information and translate that into musical understanding and technique. It is normally a combination of internet information and my personal compositions. For voice, I use no specific published method course. Read More
