I work with beginners through adult students, combining proven method-book concepts with real musical examples drawn from well-known songs and styles. I started teaching guitar at about 16, and have always maintained a studio of at least a couple students. I also offered assistance in the local band classes in order to improve my chops on my alternate instruments. I've played with several local bands, played musicals for local and regional theater groups, and was the house band leader for the Williamsburg Dinner Theater for 4 years. By my best estimation, I have played well over 1000 shows (probably closer to 1200), and that number continues to grow as I develop my band, the Darrell Boger Band. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with a Sound Before Symbol Method. That is, we learn to get to know the instrument before adding sheet music and theory. Every student's learning track is individualized- So if you want to learn pop music, I will arrange that for the flute! If classical is what you are interested in, I will bring in the Bach Partitas. I have been teaching since 2009 and was an Associate Instructor for the Jacobs School of Music. I love versatile teaching in different genre and styles. My priority is always the student.
