I love seeing my students gain passion and find success when they learn a riff or a chord, because I know how I felt when I did it. It inspires you to learn more. I like to use the method of telling them something they did fantastic, something they could work on and end on something they really did awesome on. I want to know what inspires the student and what they want to play. Read More

I find the Hal Leonard Series works as a tool for helping students understand musical concepts right away. For students who are more advanced I will plan their lessons based on what their goals are. Every student is different: Some want to compete in recitals, some want to play for their friends and family when they come over, some want to compose their own musical pieces, some people just wanna jam! Having at least some goal in mind and working towards that musical goal will help a student achieve success in whatever they put forth on their instrument of choice as well as music as a whole. It will be ultimately extremely satisfying to express feelings through the notes as we take them from on the page to in the air. Sharing this joy of music will be also undeniably rewarding from student to student as well as performer to audience. Read More

I listen to the student's music selections. While he/she plays, I observe him/her how this student is adapting to the instrument. After his/her performance, I offer constructive criticism pointing out steps to adapt himself/herself to the instrument. I also encourage and push for attentive listening for tone quality. This is very important no matter the level of students. The way to listen for tone quality is not only seating straight and at the center of the keyboard, but also understand when and how to use the bony part of the fingers(closer to nails) versus the fleshy part of fingers on the opposite side of nails. I am a piano teacher who came from a culture that does not really appreciate music. I lived there for 24 years, and I had not had the chance to pursue my dreams in music. Now that I am here having the freedom to work towards achieving my goals in music, I am studying, teaching music, expressing and sharing my love for it. I started teaching music officially in 2010, but before that I had given training courses and private lessons in some churches, and that was starting from 2005. Read More

My goal is to give my students the ability to self assess. They should be able to feel when they are singing correctly, without me always pointing it out. They learn these skills through scales, basic anatomy and physiology, physical exercises, visualization etc. I am kind, patient, supportive, and always do my best to uplift my students. I give them many tools to work with. I make sure they have scales to practice, either by recording their lesson or by sending them digital files via e-mail. Read More
