My favorite thing about teaching is that no two students are the same; and no two lessons with the same student are either! It is so important to establish a goal for a student to work towards, so that they know what they're practicing for. Not huge goals either that are months away, but goals that can be accomplished between each lesson. I am a firm believer in showing rather than telling. I always have at least one type of saxophone with me during lessons if not more. For example, if I have a student who is taking baritone saxophone lessons, then I will have a baritone saxophone with me. My goal is not to play along with the student during these lessons; rather it is simply there if I need to demonstrate a key concept to my student. Read More

You cannot have one without the other and even when I am teaching proper technique I work to make sure the student is being their most natural self, physically, mentally and musically.
