I love seeing kids as well as adults learning to play music as I feel as they get enjoyment out of it just as I did when I first started learning to play. For beginning students, I typically start with the Piano Adventures series. I learned from those books and they provide a well-rounded foundation of technique, lesson material, and performance material. That series also begins teaching basic music theory from the start. Piano Adventures is also great for visual learners- with pictures and diagrams to help understand the concepts in the lessons. My goal is to start students with strong technique and a practice plan. My teaching style varies greatly depending on the student. I adapt to each student in order to find the most effective way to both inspire a passion for the music, and to help a student advance in the most effective way possible. I usually begin each lesson by discussing how practicing went the previous week, and adress any problems that might have arrised in both finding time to practice, and in inspiring each practice session to both effective and engaging. While teaching is my bread and butter, I take most of my approaches from personal performance experiences. From performing in opera ("The Little Prince" 2024), musicals ("You're A Good Man Charlie Brown", "Beauty and the Beast" 2022, "Addams Family" 2023, "Into the Woods" 2024), and competitions (National Association of Teachers Singing Musical Theatre Winner and Classical Runner-up, 2024)-- I believe that physical, intellectual, and emotional passion within music creates avenues for students to engage in social responsibility, community building, and personal growth. My philosophy is to teach of broad spectrum of musical skills, thoery, history and application in order to let the student personalize their love for the arts.
