In doing this both children and adults are tutored in proper positioning of their hands and bodies to create a comfortable and relaxed posture of playing. A student must be comfortable enough to take the risks that are necessary to grow as a musician. Sometimes those risks will result in what seems to be a failure. I try to reinforce the idea that it is not a failure because you tried, what can we use from that experience to get closer to what you were trying to accomplish next time. I began teaching myself to play Guitar as a teenager and eventually taught myself to play other instruments as well. During this time I would learn all of my favorite songs by ear or with the help of tabs. Once I had started attending the Academy of Contemporary Music I learned more advanced music theory that relates to general music and Guitar. I have recently finished the fourth and final year of my doctorate degree in voice at the University of Oklahoma and am currently working on my dissertation. At OU, I studied with former Metropolitan opera baritone Kim Josephson. I was a good singer when I arrived at OU, but Kim, who has taken lessons from the opera legend Corelli himself, has transformed how I sing. My only reward is seeing one of my students getting better, and developing a passion for music! I will work with each student at their own pace to ensure that they are able to reach realistic goals. I base my teaching out of the Schroeder Violoncello Methods for all ages along with the Schroeder 170 cello studes. Along with that I pick pieces that the student will find enjoyable as a means to keep them encouraged.
