You are going to enjoy music more than you have before after we work together. My focus is you, the student. You will not leave my lesson with your shoulders up around your ears because you are tense from the difficult lesson. You will encounter difficulty, but my style of teaching is to show you that you can do it. We will learn fundamentals and rules of music, but these are necessary to make the music sound more beautiful. Read More

The student who speaks or plays their instrument more also practices and learns more. Students need opportunity to play along with more experience performers and I seek out every chance to insert my students into this role. I have secured opportunities for students to be the opening act for Texas country star Jolie Holiday. For younger students, I always want to make sure our lessons stay fun, while encouraging growth at the same time, so I usually let them pick a song they like, and then I assign another to assist with their musical development. I had many opportunities to perform in Southern California as a musician. In Summer of 2014, I was invited to perform as a chamber musician in Germany which had been one of the greatest experiences for me as a musician. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I understand that many people take voice lessons recreationally, and that not everyone trains like a college student. I do, however, encourage all my students not to sell themselves short and set high standards for themselves. I acknowledge any and all progress that is made, and encourage my students to be proud of the sound they are making. If you don’t like your voice, then you certainly won’t sing for someone else. Not only does this relive the tension that tends to build when you have been intensely concentrating on a new tune but it leads to discovering bits of other songs (or creating your own tunes). 3) When you dont have your instrument in your hands or dont have time to practice, think about the songs you have been working on. My college roommate who was a violinist and the concert master at OCU said he spent as many hours practicing in his head as he did practicing with his hands. 4) Just keep your guitar, mandolin, banjo etc. handy.
