My lesson style consists of working on fingering and plucking first from Essential Method Book for Strings or the Suzuki book (for the beginning students who are children). While they (children) are practicing, I encourage/ recommend them to memorize the songs if they can. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I began teaching 17 years ago while completing my Master of Arts degree in Voice Performance.I have passion for teaching students of all ages the fundamentals of singing. These include breathing, posture, and mouth position.These fundamentals stand students in good stead to sing whatever style they choose for the rest of their lives. My favorite moments while teaching is the light bulb moments, for these to occure lessons are goal based and created around the students level of exsperiece, future goals, and personal goals. In the first lesson we set mini goals for each lesson, medium goals for the month, and large goals for something we want to work towards or a up and coming competition. I use a positive environment to help student feel good about their accomplishments, but also have them discover areas of improvement by recording them or asking them what they feel they did well and what they feel they need to work on. For beginning trombonists I like to start with the standard Hal Leonard Essential Elements book, which teaches all of the fundamentals of great trombone playing. As the student progresses I add in various etude books that teach technical ability, musicality, and facility on the instrument. I also assign a solo or two for the student to work on which applies all of the fundamentals listed before into a tangible piece of performed music. Read More

I do not provide a strict curriculum. Instead, I form lessons based on student's needs as I feel this is more effective and more personalized. Things that we may explore include; warm-ups, posture, breathing techniques, tongue twisters, learning to read notation, and rhythm.
