For students are just beginning the first step is to learn the notes on the neck of the guitar. The next step is to begin learning intervals that way the student is able to build chords on the neck. Older children just beginning to enter the world of music will begin with the fundamentals of musicianship, sound, and breathing. From there I will progress to rhythm, pitch, and notation. When these skills are mastered I will get the students comfortable with their instruments and begin playing. Students that have a background in music with their instruments will be assessed to determine the level of teaching required. The classical repertoire will reinforce the technique and specific lessons covered. The other pieces should also reinforce specific concepts and skills, but should be music the student enjoys. I strive to keep the lessons and the practice time engaging and rewarding. I cannot stress enough that music is a talent, and just as importantly a skill that anyone can develop. As a middle-aged adult I have (just a few years ago) been diagnosed with ADHD, which explains my entire life of practicing music!
