Instruments: Voice
I understand that many people take voice lessons recreationally, and that not everyone trains like a college student. I do, however, encourage all my students not to sell themselves short and set high standards for themselves. I acknowledge any and all progress that is made, and encourage my students to be proud of the sound they are making. If you don’t like your voice, then you certainly won’t sing for someone else. Like I said in my experience section. I believe that students of different ages that are just starting instruments will have different wants and needs. So my teaching style will change a bit. Younger students, such as children, should get a healthy mix of popular music and some form of 'classical' training, I am including Jazz and other genres in the 'classical' as there is large amounts of history and techniques to explore. I base my teaching methods on the student I am teaching. For students that are children at a beginner level, I typically begin with the essential elements of creating vocal foundation which I draw from many sources. Once we have set a good foundation, we tend to begin working on repertoire that is appropriate for the level at which they are singing, using those songs as learning opportunities. For adults, I begin by asking about the goals of the individual student and I then formulate a strategy to help the student reach their specific singing goals. Read More

Music is a language! I teach music in a similar manner as we learn to speak. We learn to speak through trial and error having no wrong words and music should be taught in a similar fashion, where there are no wrong notes. We learn our speaking style, manner and/or accents by what we hear and this concept also applies to music; therefore listening is a crucial part for advancement and the pleasure of learning. Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium
Students of all ages will work out of a technique/method book. Younger students will use Walter Beeler's Method for Cornet/Trumpet, more advanced students will play from Arban's. I emphasize a "classical" approach, especially with younger students to solidify their skills, encouraging intersted students to begin including jazz improvisation into their studies as their skills advance. We work on tone production, helping the student improve in this area through attention to breathing, embouchure, articulation, long tones, lip flexibilities, scales, etc. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
I first find out what inspired a students decision to study and/or play music. Then, I strive to adapt to my students learning style and use their personal interests to bring out the highest potential for learning. I write my own exercises for each student because I believe every student will have different needs that can be addressed with individualized exercises. Additionally, I focus on teaching students how to choose priorities for practice. Read More

Not only does this relive the tension that tends to build when you have been intensely concentrating on a new tune but it leads to discovering bits of other songs (or creating your own tunes). 3) When you dont have your instrument in your hands or dont have time to practice, think about the songs you have been working on. My college roommate who was a violinist and the concert master at OCU said he spent as many hours practicing in his head as he did practicing with his hands. 4) Just keep your guitar, mandolin, banjo etc. handy.
