Even though all students require different needs, I will usually start my lessons by warming up the voice with different exercises. After that, I will work on repertoire with the student. My favorite book for beginning singers is the 24 Italian Songs Arias. A lot of good habits and technique can be learned through repertoire. I started playing snare at 10 and drumset at 14 focusing mostly on rock drumming. I played quads and quints in marching band in high school and bass drum in college. I then studies jazz and percussion at Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Valley State University. I then studied Music composition at University of North Texas. I played church drums through out all of this as well as with jazz trios, rock bands, and cover bands. Read More

First, I find out what the student wants to focus on more, whether it is notation and musical theory, or learning a few basic chords, strumming patterns and such, to be able to play their favorite songs.
