I like a light, fun atmosphere during lessons, one that reflects the learning style and personality of each student. There are some not-so-fun things about learning music (practice schedules and repetition) but there are plenty of resources out there to help students stay interested and motivated. For students who are young children, I like to start working on fundamental musical and singing concepts, including posture, breath management, pitch matching, music literacy, and expression. I work with each student to find songs which are appropriate for their voice, and songs they are excited about working on.
