I usually start with breathing exercises and vocalises for all students. I also use the exercise books Concone and Sieber. After the student has grasped the breathing and the coordination of the vocalises we move on to repertoire that is age appropriate. I encourage my students to sing in Italian as this helps them to acquire a proper technique because Italian uses pure vowels. I have studied with some great teachers and feel like I need to pass on those methods to the next generation of musicians. Read More

For the beginning string player I like to start with a Hal Leonard method book to communicate and help string players master the basics. Once the student has progressed I will begin some solo repertoire from varying genres. I find it is always helpful to allow students to play music that they enjoy - experiencing a range of both popular and classical pieces to broaden their horizons. In our lessons we will focus on the fundamentals, then the music, and having a little fun at the end. Progress might be slow or we might be able to jump to more advanced music in the first month of meeting but I understand that every student is different and will progress at their own pace and I will do my best to help guide them. I love working with children and helping them discover the piano and the joy of playing music. I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy and have been teaching ever since. I am an active member of the Richardson Music Teachers Association, which affords many musical opportunities for my students.
