My methods include a wide variety of resources. For beginning students I like both the Hal Leonard and John Thompson approaches. Along with the lesson books, i also encourage technical studies including scales, arpeggios and other studies to build up finger strength, dexterity and independence, As the student progresses, I introduce memory work, choring and basic improvisation. Since I am also a composer and arranger, I tend to be partial towards the use of my own "homemade" methods.... taking on the idea of composers like Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann (example would be Album of the Young) and writing simple pieces that reinforce specific technical challenges like double thirds, left hand arpeggios, consecutive octaves, pedalling and so on.
