I am a passionate flutist that loves teaching flute privately in addition to performing. In May of 2022, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Hartt School of Music with a BM in Flute Performance. While I was there, I studied with Janet Arms, flutist of New York City Opera. I have also extensively studied with Dr. Barbara Hopkins, Assistant Principal of The Hartford Symphony Orchestra. For beginners, I teach them basic exercises and the fundamentals needed to play their instrument. Once they have that down, we can talk about what repertoire to learn. Then, I will teach them the songs they want to learn, as well as any techniques they are curious about. For an intermediate and higher level students, the direction of the lessons is more in their hands. I teach strictly by the John Thompson Book Series, Grade 1, Grade 2, and Advanced level. I also make it a goal for the student to learn one major classical piece throughout the course of instruction: "Fur Elise" by Beethoven, or "Moonlight Sonata: 1st Movement" by Beethoven. I started teaching in minneapolis Schmitt music through my undergrad with total beginners for 3 years which taught me a lot and then more during masters. Taught all ages at eastman community school when studying at Eastman and was a Studio teaching assistant for Steven Doanes studio and taught first years undergrad students in group technique classes and one on one repertoire lessons. Faculty eastman community music school teacher for two years and taught group lessons and one on one of mostly adult players and some university of Rochester science students that wanted to keep going with music as a hobby.
