As a lifelong musician, singer and actress, I can unequivocally say that a passion for communication and the fostering of creative expression is what drives my work. Ihave experience in classical, opera, musical theater, jazz, folk music and more. In my work as a private teacher, I have trained singers of virtually every genre. I have found that the principles of good vocal technique can be applied to any style of singing. Read More

I have a very creative teaching style. My emphasis is on student-centered learning. Learning should not solely be myself giving instruction and the students listening. In order for students to grow, discovery on their part needs to happen through guided questioning. The more this happens, the more that students are inclined to make their own discoveries and become their own teachers/motivators for improvement. I am also a firm believer in having the student explore who their musical heroes are. Read More

What Books and Methods I use depend on whether the student has a particular style in mind from the beginning of their studies. I will often use the Frederick Noad series of Books with students who know they want to study Classical Guitar and then progress to repertoire when the time seems right. If they aren't sure of what direction they want to go in I will use the Hal Leonard or Mel Bay Books to get them started, and when I start to see what direction they want to go in I will begin introducing different songs and repertoire to see what direction they seem to be headed towards. I've actually written and produced my own music theory book that was in all Borders stores before they closed down. I've learned a few methods and I try to incorporate them all unless the student or parents wants something specific. My method is a method where I can teach 1 thing countless ways. I love my students to learn theory because it is a very important backbone to music. Some people can play instruments without ever really kwoing what they are playing or understand the theory behind it, and I think it holds them back from truely being creative and understanding of music. With my methods students will be able to play from any genre, any book, and hopefully will be able to create their own music. Read More

To me, the most rewarding thing to see is seeing your students develop the same passion you did when you were their age! As an educator, I believe that no two students are exactly alike -- each student has their own strengths and learn at different paces. It's important to use those strengths and foster them to achieve the best possible goal. By finding out what interests the student, I can cater to their individual needs, wants, and creativity. Currently I am not teaching beginners. I start with whatever the books they have and experience and preference of music they have. I also bring copied music to introduce them to different styles of music to see what they would be interested in and what they need to work on technically and musically. I also ask them, "what is your goal to take piano lessons?" to set a personal goal for each student to make mile stones to achieve their goals. Read More

Ever since I first started playing I was always into teaching and sharing knowledge, in the practice room, on the bandstand. I was always learning and always trying to share what I knew to make the music sound better. Thats what its about really, trying to make the music as good as it can be, trying to make the vocalist or saxophone player sound great. Thats the role of the bassist. Read More
