I am a motivated instructor who enjoys teaching students of all ages.  My experience includes playing from memory works by well known classical composers such as Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Debussy.  These recitals were before I graduated.   My teachers were impressed that I could play these works from memory.  I enjoyed practicing for these recitals. When I first meet a student, I like evaluate their current skill level and based on that, I will have an idea of which direction to guide them. I will learn their intentions of what their goals are short term and long term so we can work together to prepare for what is to come. For beginning students I like to find out how much experience they have had in music and find out what they want to get out of these lessons. If they are just starting out I'll start with the basics, how to hold a drumstick, the parts of the drum set, correct posture, etc. I believe that all students regardless of age and level should learn how to read music.
