I listen to what the student has to say, and also hone in on where they are currently in their musicianship. This allows me to really see what areas need to be focused on specifically. I strongly encourage students to push themselves and will often provide slightly more challenging material to help them improve. There is nothing I love more than watching my students meet their singing goals and further their love of music. I meet all of my students where they are, and work with whatever skill set they have, to help them become the musicians they dream of being. I do this by encouraging regular practice sessions, and assigning music that they are passionate about learning. I try to incorporate different exercises for each piece of music to keep things interesting for my students. I believe active physical engagement of the body is important to achieve freedom for the voice. This is particularly helpful for younger children to keep their minds from wandering during the lesson. I often ask for feedback from the students, to check in on how they are feeling physically and vocally. During our lessons, I hope to train up students to be creative thinkers and discerning individuals so that they can find their own authentic interpretation of the song. Read More

My personal pedagogy is a combination of the basic technical and theoretical aspects of the instrument and what music the student is interested in. It is paramount that students of all levels are learning their instrument through performing their favorite music. All necessary technical exercises can be adapted to a specific genre of music.
