I am an energetic and patient (promise) teacher. I studied Piano at Music Conservatory of Porto (Portugal). I decided to become a composer and moved on to graduate in Music Composition in Lisbon, and to having my music performed in Europe and the United States, by world class orchestras (like Gulbenkian Orchestra and Orchestrutopica), and world class conductors (like Beat Furrer and Christopher Bochmann), but to this day I never stopped studying piano, playing piano, composing for piano and yes, of course, teaching piano. In 2004, I graduated from Hartford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance. In 2006, I graduated from Manhattan School of Music with a Masters degree in Piano Performance. I believe there is no "cookie cutter" method to teaching so I tailor my lessons specifically to each of my students. I have found that having a strong foundation in classical music sets the tone for musical excellence for all styles, regardless of age or musical maturity. From that perspective I like to start all of my students on The Arban's and Herbert L. Clarke Method books for trumpet. As we progress, I will add other method books/repertoire that emphasize what the student wants to learn or to highlight an area the student or I think could use improvement. Read More

I try to tailor my lessons almost like a Doctor sees a patient. Every student is different, I do think it is important to learn to read music. I love music theory and I emphasize learning to love practicing technique. With my beginner piano students I generally use a Hal Leonard series book, but supplement it with a book of piano exercises. With my guitar students it depends on their age and experience, I use a Hal Leonard method book for youngsters and then begin teaching them songs they identify that they really want to learn. I graduated from Central Conservatory of Music of China with a Bachelor of Music Degree in French Horn Performance. I got my master's from The Boston Conservatory of Music in French Horn Performance. I also got a Graduate Performance Diploma in French Horn at The Boston Conservatory. I've had hundreds of performances as a guest musician with China NCPA (National Center for the Performing Arts) Orchestra and played six concerts in America, including Chicago Symphony Center, Stern Auditorium Carnegie Hall, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Davies Symphony Hall, and HillAuditorium, University of Michigan. I was excited to complete my graduate thesis in December 2021, Music for Creative Learning. It proposes a specific teaching pedagogy that is meant to stimulate cognitive development, foster creativity, and develop global civics. I will first start with warm-up. I will start with some scales. Then I will work on breathing techniques, and then posture. I will also explain the biology of vocal cords. Along with songs that they plan to sing for recitals, I will also expect them to bring a song that they would like to learn, because I don't want them to forget why they chose music in the first place i.e because they like it.
