Each lesson starts with technical exercises, follwed by repertoire. Each student does theory during the lesson with twenty questions at the end. During this time, I do all review theory material. Difficult passages are marked with a "P" chart. They have to play the difficult part four times and get a "P" for each perfect playing. Every fifth time they have to repeat from the beginning to integrate the difficult part with the rest of the song.

I began teaching in my teens as a way to make a little extra money while playing music. It's a great way to learn from someone else, as everyone has their own unique perspective on their own instruments.

Music lessons are not math class. It is first important to discover what the student is interested in learning. I balance the learning of material that the student is interested in with excercises and other concepts that I know to be important for any musician. I always encourage students to play with their peers!

My private voice teacher in college was truly an inspiration and expanded my voice. He formed my philosophy that voice study should always begin with the natural voice. I begin with the voice my student has- this provides a healthy singing experience that will last a lifetime! I believe healthy singing should always be the basis instruction regardless of genre. The same concept applies to guitar instruction. Improper guitar technique can cause joint damage over time! I always want my students to be healthy and safe!

I love to see students come out of their shell!  It gives me so much pleasure to watch the progression of a student who starts out shy and scared to sing in public, to commanding a stage and audience after a series of lessons.  I like to move at the students pace, while encouraging and challenging the student to push themselves with healthy vocal practices and exercises, while in, and away from the studio.  My goal for my students is to help them find their own, unique voice and style!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
