My music teaching experience goes back to 2013 when I taught English at a public school in Tampa, Florida. I've always been a guitar fanatic and my students knew this, so one student, Robert, asked me if I'd like to give him one-on-one lessons on guitar. Besides showing my friends techniques and certain songs, this was the first official student that I had, and I've had several students since that time. Read More

Growing up in a musical family instilled a love of music as a child. My father was an accomplished jazz pianist and when I was 15 years old I began playing professionally. I had great teachers in my formative years, from my father, my band directors and to my private instructors, I learned that developing simple concepts to tackle seemingly complex ideas was the key to my success. I graduated from Texas State University in 2001 with a B.A. in Music Performance. Read More

I tend to incline towards George Molineux's premise of imagery and teaching. Constructing my own philosophy of music teaching. For children I tend to start with posture, positioning of the hands, rounded fingers and finger notation. I understand that Molineux's teaching methods are of the 19th centurybut they are still relevant today in how we perceive music. We watch TV with music, we access our smart devices and play music, we play computer games with music. Read More

As an educator, I believe it is important to continue school music instruction into private flute lessons. I like to communicate with a child's school music teacher in the beginning of flute lessons, so that I can keep music terminology consistent for students, as well as reinforce concepts they're already learning (while expanding musically of course!). I like to have students keep a lesson packet where progress is documented, along with a journal--I find that reflecting for five minutes after a practice session (things that went well, things you need help on, questions), are important tools when striving for success. I am a calm, laid-back, yet intense teacher who expects the best from myself and my students. In almost every aspect of my life, I take an approach developed from my experiences with bodybuilding. As a competitive bodybuilder in college, I learned that progress requires desire, discipline, patience, self-evaluation, and the willingness to change directions and tweak one's regimen. I see weakness as simply the absence of strength, which is correctable. Read More

My style is very basic. I believe that it is very important to play music. A lot can be lost on the practicing and theory. I like to develop the love and passion for music. I believe it is important to learn scales, chords and theory but you have to hear and feel music. My lessons are tailored to the ability of the students. I try to find what style the student likes and begin from there. Read More
