For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I have a love for teaching as well as for learning, and am always sudying something new. I have experience performing in a range of styles, from classical to jazz to rock and pop to bluegrass. My cello instruction is separated by levels and books. Level 0-1 is in Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books 1 and 2. Level 1-2 is Rick Mooney's Position Pieces Book 1, as well as sheet music and books outside of that method book. Level 2-3 is Rick Mooney's Position Pieces Book 2 and sheet music, and 3+ will be Rick Mooney's Thumb Position books. I start my younger students with Alfred's Basic Piano Library Prep Course For The Young Beginner. This series incorporates basic music theory in each lesson which is imperative for success on the piano. The lessons use graphics, language and examples that children can easily grasp, and are lots of fun to read and play. As their skills improve, I play an accompaniment for encouragement and fun.
