I am a passionate and motivated performer and instructor who loves to work one-on-one with other students to help them achieve their personal musical goals. In May of 2015, I graduated from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University with a Performance degree in Jazz and Contemporary Music Studies. Having been blessed with being able to both learn from and perform with many great musicians, I frequently perform in and around the city in various musical settings and genres. Read More

The most important thing that I can teach a student is good habits. One of my first teachers always said "I'm not here to teach you to play the trombone, I'm here to teach you how to practice the trombone." That has esentially been my teaching philosophy since then. The half hour to an hour that I would be spending with a student each week is not enough time to turn them into a great trombone player, so the most important thing to do in lessons is to teach them how to practice the instrument when I am not in the room with them. I happily teach at a pace that is comfortable for the student. If he or she only has time for a couple hours of practice a week, then we will progress at an equally stable pace in our lessons. I like to use written theory and ear training, but only if the student wants to learn with that technique. Guitarists and bassists can study tab with me as well. I encourage the student to bring in music they are excited about learning as the students often expose me to great music I may not have been familiar with before. Read More

This gives us tangible goals and milestones that help students feel more fulfilled and successful when we get there. For the other half of my philosophy, a culturally response/sustaining approach generally means that I encourage students to choose music that means something to them; whether its music in a language they know, music from their culture or a culture they want to learn more about. This kind of approach helps to refine a student's musicianship by utilizing the connection they already have to the music. Read More

Not one lesson is the same. I cater each lesson to the student. Every student is different and have a different learning style! With my first lesson, I love to sit down down with the student and/or the parent and to discuss expectations and get to know the student. I also determine what level they are at so I know where we need to begin. Every student has their own unique experience. Read More

I like to start with the basics. Its important to let the student gain confidence in their instrument. So I start with very simple task that would be easy to do while I'm present so if they have any questions I can answer. I also do everything in three's...if we are working on the C scale and we get it correct I like to do it three time straight for memory. Read More

I began my teaching career as a private lesson teacher in 2000. Then I advanced into the private schools from grades k-12 from 2001-2003. During this time I taught children that had special needs. They became one of my best students. I taught in public schools as well in 2008. I did private lessons for six years in between from 2003-09. Read More
