I encourage my students to practice daily and to take care of their instruments. I tell my students that I believe that if you really want to be a singer, musician, and entertainer if you never give up eventually you will achieve your goals. Success is measured by your own happiness, short term and long term goals. At other times I studied with members of the Ensemble Modern in Germany. Most recently my musical studies have focused around composition and experimental music performance. I believe that the ultimate lesson that I learned from the best of the teachers, was how to teach oneself how to teach oneself, as you are your own best teacher. During my time at FIU I was a Teaching Assistant with the FIU Marching Band. There I assisted in the direction and teaching of the marching band students, and attended all performances. For the past 5 years or so I have been teaching private saxophone students as well. My experience with saxophone consists of classical pedagogy. At Northwestern, it was my responsibility, on top of earning my degree, to teach lessons to non-music major students. These student came from all backgrounds and experience levels, and their fields of study included math, computer science, drama, and more. Along with my other students, who I've taught privately for years, they all made improvements in performance practice, musicianship, and, of course, their voices. I have over 15 years of experience teaching guitar and voice to students from 4 – 73 years old. During the last two years I began teaching ukulele to children as young as 4years old. I am currently teaching mostly school age children, adolescents and adults. As a music therapist I have used guitar lessons as a therapeutic intervention to improve cognitive functioning in older adults.
