I've had quite extensive experiences in teaching. Teaching and tutoring began during my high school days. I would help out after classes or teach piano on the side. Coming up will be my 6th year in teaching piano. I've also tutored my peers all throughout college in music theory, musicianship, and ear/aural training. I've interned at an elementary school for a semester teaching general music. I was even able to get the opportunity to go to Japan for three months and teach English and translate for the United States Navy. Read More

I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. I changed direction and my life style, for the next 30 years playing in praise and worship ministries, in some of the largest churches in American and locally..... playing guitar and bass. My approach is very simple.....Dream....... and study your instrument, and you too can make your dreams come true what ever your dream is in music. My approach and style with my studentsis, more ofapplication. One approach is,building a strong foundation by learning how to read musicorif you chose, tolearn how to improve your "ear" and read charts. Read More
Instruments: Piano
All of my students learn piano classically, but I focus on finding other genres and styles that will help the student become connected with the music they learn to create. Students can expect to have structured lessons that incorporate technique exercises, rhythmic foundations, music theory, and repetoire that is appropriate for their age and ability. Each student will be assigned "homework" every week that is encouraging and motivates them to practice on their own. Read More

I'm easy to get along with and have experience teaching and playing full time for living. I've taught kids, teenagers, adults, and seniors. You name the gig and I've probably played it including, corporate events, parties, weddings, hotels, casinos, cruise ships, traveling gigs in several states, and in the Bahamas too. I still truely enjoy playing guitar and consider teaching a great opportunity to share what I've learned over the years. Read More

With all beginning students, I typically start with very minimal basics. Proper stretches, warm-up techniques (reudiments to help strengthen their dynamics), correct posture and the over all comfort of beginning. Once the student has progressed and understands the fundamentals, next would be reading music and counting time. When moving beyond the fundamentals, I try to focus more on the particular interest of the student. Is there a certain genre, a certain song, a certain player? Read More

For first learners I like to focus on the basic stepping stones of playing guitar as well as find more about my student in regards to their music preference as well as what they find enjoyable about learning an instrument. Learning an instrument should be fun and gratifying so it is important for a student to be happy learning rather than feel like it is a chore. Positive reinforcement gets way more results than negative reinforcement. Read More
