My life is about music. I started playing guitar at age 5 years old. Began learning to read music at age 7 yrs. By the time I was 12, I joined the musician's union, playing lead guitar in my 1st group, in the St. Louis area for the next 8 years. Moved to Hollywood, Ca.. to further my life as a musician ,soon playing bass and played on TV shows such as The Merv Griffen Show, and other T.V. shows,recorded 2 sound tracks in films andplayed on the" World Famous Sunset Strip" for several years and touring across the country. Each student is different, so I use different method books to suit how he or she learns.  One student may learn quickly in note reading while another is stronger in memorization.  I use classical repertoire to give the students a solid foundation, and then as they progress, I will introduce popular songs that they love.  I incorporate music theory in all of my lessons because knowing theory opens many doors to what one can do with music! Throughout the process, I also integrate tidbits of music theory and history to give the student a more well-rounded experience.  As for guitar and piano, I normally take a more custom approach to teaching that tends to not revolve around any specific method book. However, I typically teach beginning pianists and guitarists how to read through and play simple pieces of music so that they understand the fundamentals before moving on to a mix of songs or pieces that I select and songs or pieces that the student wishes to play so as to keep things fresh and exciting.  Read More
