I tailor my teaching to each student's needs and interests. I emphasize overall musicianship in addition to learning to the fundamentals of the particular instrument, splitting most lessons 50/50 between fundamentals on the instrument and musicianship skills such as music theory, sight-reading, sight-singing, playing by ear, and composition or improvisation. For students in a school band or orchestra program, I will work with them on their band music and bring in additional material as enrichment. Read More

My methodology is inspired by the Suzuki method, which believes that learning music is similar to how humans learn to speak first, and write later. In the end, music is a type of language. Having said that, I always have a conversation with my students, and/or their parents, to learn what artists they listen to, what their favorite songs are and what goals they want to achieve. As a result, my lessons are catered distinctively to each unique student, but what they all have in common will be a passion for music! Read More

I am a caring and motivating music teacher and I love using students gifts to help develop their musicianship goals. I graduated from the University of Arizona in December of 2019 with a Bachelor of Music Education. My greatest passion is playing and teaching Irish music because I was given the opportunity to study abroad while in college and fell in love with the music tradition. I have traveled and played flute and Irish Tin Whistle in many countries and I hope to inspire students to reach for what they are passionate about with open arms. Read More

My teaching style is centered on the intersection between neuroscience and music. I love exploring how the brain works and how we can take advantage of that to make our practice as effective as possible. For example, did you know that a lot of the absorbing information that your brain does happens while youre sleeping? Or that a technique called random practice is more effective than blocked practice? In addition to supplementing my teaching with my neuroscience degree (in progress), I also think that it is my job as a teacher to make motivation and inspiration as easy as possible for the student. My philosophy is that music is part of life and useful in all phases of learning. You may have been labled "right brained" creative or 'left brained" analytical, music connects the two together. Music lessons asks the eyes, ears, and hands to work together connecting the two sides of the brain. Music can dramatically improve math and reading skills while building confidence and enjoyment. I have been consistently giving private lessons since 2009 while I was in college, The Peabody Conservatory. I have completed my student teaching as a string specialist at Elkridge Landing Middle School and Elkridge Elementary School in Maryland. It has been a wonderful experience, allowing me to become skilled teaching music in public school setting. After my student teaching, I taught at Glenwood Middle School and Tridelphia Ridge Elementary School as a string orchestra director. Read More
