My teaching style is creative! We are in this work together. I want to set you up for success no matter what your goals may be. I find ways to hone in on technique through song choices, visualization, the lyrics/text, poetry. Asking why a student is attracted to a specific song, pointing out some patterns of why they may like it, talking through the emotions behind it, or what it brings up and layering those "performance qualities" with simple techniques. I spend the 2017-2018 academic year working full time at Charles W. Henry Elementary School in Mt. Airy, PA. I therefore have a lot of experience working with children grades K-8. I have also been teaching privately for 2 years. With younger students in particular, I like to focus on a combination of instrumental performance, music history/appreciation, as well as music theory. I have found that kids have a natural enthusiasm for music, even if some adults may deem it too 'complex' for them. Read More

I'm passionate about giving the student the best information to improve their love and skill for the Arts. I make it fun thru techniques applied from manny years of experience in teaching and performing. I'm dual certified in New York and New Jersey and have made music a major part of my life (I met my wife at Music College.) In addition to teaching I am an active freelance flute and piccolo player. I love playing in symphonies and opera orchestras and have worked with conductors Pierre Vallet, Keith Chambers, and David Bernard among others. I particularly love the exhilaration of soaring above the orchestra on piccolo. I have performed at venues throughout the city including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Symphony Space. I received my Bachelor's in Music in Flute Performance from New York University, graduating summa cum laude in 2007. Read More

I tailor to the desire/ ability level of each student accordingly. Depending on how hard a student is willing to work, I conduct the lessons in an appropriate matter. I learn what the student loves about music and try to work from there so that the experience is meaningful, advantageous, and fun. Sharing music with others is incredibly important to me as a person. Music can bring people a sense of accomplishment and joy for the rest of their lives, that can become a truly valuable part of themselves and their future. Read More

This is because in my seven years of teaching I have observed that much of what students struggle with is habitual tension, whether physical or psychological. Therefore, it doesn't matter what kind of music a student wants to sing as long as they approach the material from a relaxed and grounded place physically and mentally. My students will not only take consistent lessons (properly customized to what they need to learn that month, week, or session) but they will actively seek out opportunities to perform what they have learned in a public setting. I tailor my lessons to the needs and levels of every student. I like to keep an organized electronic folder with PDFs for every student. Handouts on every specific topic are included in these hand-outs, some scanned hand-written exercises that I design for each student and some others extracted from books on different topics. Some books are suggested but I don't follow any single method although I find it very useful the Modern Method For Guitar by William Leavitt, the different books by Barry Galbraith for more advanced students, and The Jazz Conception series Read More
