I taught my first lesson in Sudbury Massachusetts 19 years ago. I spent 16 years, teaching people of all ages seven days a week. Being able to teach music is a gift. I feel very fortunate. It’s some of the most rewarding work I could ever do. Over the years I’ve learned that recitals on a regular basis are crucial to a students progression. Some of the greatest time of my teaching career are watching the parents of that students faces while child performs something we have worked So hard on. Read More

I am fairly new to professional teaching. I've been giving very occasional, informal lessons to friends for at least 5 years now. However, I am passionate about moving forward as a teacher, and sharing my twin loves of music and learning with students at any level of ability. In my past informal lessons, I have taught left- and right-hand guitar technique; fretboard logic; scales and scale patterns; chord-voicings (and how to develop your own); harmony; melody; modal theory; and repertoire, including such songs as the jazz standard "All Of Me", and Red Hot Chili Peppers "Can't Stop". I am a cellist and recent graduate of the New England Conservatory in Boston. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Virginia Tech, where I developed passions for chamber and contemporary classical music. I brought these interest to Boston, and have performed throughout New England in chamber music series, conductorless ensembles, and orchestras. While studying at NEC, I was also a musical storytelling fellow, and developed multiple programs of original songs and stories to perform at elementary schools and children's venues throughout the city. I have developed a method for guitar students of all ages to quickly learn chords and scales so that they can not only learn the chord progression to songs, they can also find the correct scale to "solo" and improvise over them. Once the chord structure and scale are learned I accompany the student, playing along with them so that they can practice playing with another musician and soloing. I have also developed a full curriculum for teaching bass guitar to all ages and skill levels. Read More

For beginning students, we will first spend time getting acquainted with the instrument. It takes time for a beginner's fingers to get used to playing a fretted instrument, so getting comfortable is key. I will also start with the basics of reading music. As students progress into the intermediate range, we will start to train our ears with listening exercises, and we will also dive in to more difficult material. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I believe strongly that curiosity is the greatest catalyst for learning. A student learns best when they the subject interests and excites them. Therefore my first task as a teacher is to select repertoire that the student loves and that is appropriate for their skill level and developmental trajectory. Many teachers will force their students to practice soulless, irrelevant technical exercises. This very often causes the student to resent music altogether, forfeiting what could have been a lifelong passion. Read More
