If you are young(or old) and want to play classical music, then we start with the basics. One of my favorite books to teach from is Alfred's Basics. If you are wanting to be a songwriter and play guitar, I teach basic chords and theory, and songwriting, and we build from there. Checking in is always important and I want to make sure my students are challenged and encouraged, but most of all having fun! Read More
Instruments: Piano Drums Keyboard
Beginner students of any age will be playing music with the band during the first lesson! Although my curriculum is deep-seated in good technique, I believe it is important for students to develop fluidity and expressiveness from the very beginning. I am an accomplished keyboard player and utilize this skill to accompany my drum set students while they play grooves and lesson exercises so they can understand how it all "goes together". Read More

I love to teach. I studied in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, and Mathematics, but music and teaching have always been in my life, teaching students throughout high school and college at UGA as a second job. I took trips to Mexico over the summers from 2002-2005 playing music for children and students in between manual labor mission work. My music performance experience ranges from large outdoor venues in front of a large crowd to sitting and recording acoustic and electric lead tracks in a studio. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet French Horn
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. These are some of my approaches and I also like to reach on how to play by ear. Read More
Instruments: Drums
A typical lesson would include a warmup and a short converstation to make sure that the student and I are on the same page. I want the student to have fun and enjoy the lesson but I also want to push the student to reach their goals. Goal setting is a very important process of any lesson. Benchmarks allow us to see where we're going and celebrate when we get there. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Clarinet Drums Tuba
I love seeing students realize their own progress. I always like to start with recording a first attempt and then recording it again once it has been mastered so they can see their progress. I focus on positive reinforcement teaching. It is very easy, especially for a new student, to get bogged down in not making progress fast enough so I like to make sure they see all the steps they're taking and also know where it will lead them.
