I have been teaching for over 30 years, and I love working with children. Regular practice is important so that students can see progress and reap the rewards that come with it. I meet the students where they are at, trying to work with their particular style of learning. My lessons are based in classical music, but we learn many different styles of music as they progress. The teaching association I belong to has four festivals a year, which I encourage my students to participate in, where they perform pieces and receive constructive feedback, helping them to grow as musicians and to become comfortable playing for others. My teaching experiences have come from my time spent playing in a variety of ensembles in the different colleges that I attended. I was often asked to lead groups in rehearsal and this was where my teaching experiences first began. It started with my colleges Big Band and then with a Saxophone Quartet. Being able to lead a group of musicians and helping them get better everyday was the most fulfilling feeling I got during my time in school and pushed me to try my hand at teaching younger students. I pride myself in making my students succeed, I’ve had students start taking lessons with me starting in the lowest orchestra and after some months they are in the top orchestra and in a couple of occasions they were also first chair. I typically begin my young students in the Suzuki Method for Flute, inwhich I have received the training for this method. For older students, I begin them in the Trvor Wye Method for Beginning Flute Students. I supplement both these methods with solos appropriate for their level and goals, such as UIL and other competitions. I'm a drummer of 22 years!, I have featured on numerous records as a session drummer, played hundreds of shows across the country (mostly rock/metal but occasionally jazz/funk/country) I have been classically trained from age 6-present (yes, teachers need teachers too!
