I have been a self-taught, hobby guitar player for over 20 years. I am heavily influenced by Rock, and Blues guitarists, but I am also a fan of Classical Flamenco guitar. I have been teaching beginner guitar and Music Theory for a little over 1 year. I enjoy teaching beginner and intermediate guitar students of all ages. I can teach you the basics of tuning your guitar, memorization of the fretboard, proper fingering and hand positions, as well as written music theory concepts and how they apply to the guitar neck. Once you understand basic guitar music theory, I will teach you all about the world of playing scales, and how to master them for soloing.
I have been teaching beginner guitar students for just over 1 year now. I have taught students from ages 5 years old to 60+ yrs. My love for guitar is expressed through teaching others who have a desire to learn, and to develop a passion for music as it relates to playing the guitar. I believe that anyone can develop this skill, if they just dedicate themselves to lots and lots of practice, and book study. Just like anything in life, without practice, you won't learn. So practice makes perfect.
I will sit with you, one on one, and introduce you to your guitar. We will string the gutar, tune the guitar, and learn the parts of the guitar together. Next, we will begin memorizing the fretboard and where all of the notes are located along every string. Finger and hand positioning will be next, so you can begin strengthening exercises in preparation for playing scale patterns on the neck of the guitar. Together, we will memorize notes and work our way through learning music theory concepts, so you can communicate with other musicians.
I am very easy teacher to learn from. I understand that every student is different, and learns at his or her own pace. I will move you along as fast or slow as you like, depending on how much information you are retaining. We will be doing a lot of memorization work, and written music theory, while you develop the necessary hand strength to play the guitar properly. So, with plenty of time, patience, and above all, PRACTICE, you will be well on your way to playing your favorite songs, and TEACHING YOURSELF new songs.
