For beginners, I start with Suzuki school violin and guitar books. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals I introduce pieces or may have the student pick out a pice they'd like to work on. For more intermediate players I generally try to help them with music they may already be working on and give them studies to practice relevant techniques. I typically start students who don’t know how to read music with Kevin Olsen‘s book called “The Perfect Start.” I then supplement that with my own approaches to teaching to note reading, musicianship, theory, sight singing, and composition. After a few months, the student will be transferred over to such books as Fabre and Fabre.” I truly try and streamline a students experience and lessons towards pieces and music they are interested in playing.
