I believe that music has the capacity to be an agent of change, both within and outside one's self. Learning a musical instrument can be a very satisfying opportunity to grow as a person and as a musician. My method of instruction is individualized to both a student's goals and their unique interests or aptitudes. I try to provide a good balance between working on theory, technique, and repertoire, and working on aspects that might be more fun like a students favorite song. This allows the student to make progress while also keeping motivated, which is really important for long term goals. For children, the balance has to lean more towards the more entertaining aspect, because of the reduced attention span. I actively work towards getting the younger students to increase their tolerance towards difficult challenges so that they can make more overall progress. Read More

Additionally, I have been a soloist with orchestras and performed concerts sponsored by the US government, the Japanese government and was given a Contribution Award by the Phoenix Government. As the Junior Director/ Cello faculty of Cincinnati Young Artists Festival which takes place at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music every summer. I taught theory classes, recruited diverse students, and arranged all junior student lessons, rehearsals, etc. Based on my background and having worked with parents and students of different ages, I hope my students would not only improve their cello playing skills but also be a positive person. I create my own lesson plans based off of the individual student. For voice students, we usually warm up, do technical exercises working on varying registers and techniques, and then work on repertoire. I often find the passages in a particular song that the student is struggling with and focus in on those, finding exercises to guide the student. I gravitate towards the Essential Elements for Strings books for beginner students because the books so effortlessly combine the first steps of cello playing with basic concepts of music theory and history. I then use a combination of cello duets, etudes (like Dotzauer and S.Lee), and method books (Feuillard) for technical studies. I always incorporate traditional music for the cello (like Bach Cello Suites, famous cello concertos), but work with students on whatever music they enjoy. Read More
