I have been teaching professionaly since the age of 19.  It's been an unbelievable 19years. My performance experience ranges from winning college competitions, serving as pianist, organist, and music director for many local congregations, to singing in a cover band with my husband. I have had a passion for teaching music since I was in high school, when began a private studio out of my home in 2006. I obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance from Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music in 2014, and two Master of Music degrees from the University of Michigan in 2014, in Trombone Performance and Chamber Music respectively. I grew up in Georgia fully embracing my band nerd. I started playing the saxophone in middle school and took weekly lessons. This led me to go on to college to study music. The saxophone lends itself to play in all genres like jazz and even classical music. I bring a mix of these into the lessons I teach to help students become well versed in saxophone literature. I have always focused on teaching each student holistically. I hope to influence students in their discovery of music through various modalities of learning, including visual, auditory, proprio-kinesthitic (movement), with a special focus on audiation. During piano and flute study, we explore the instruments as acoustical marvels and the students' interactions with them. Voice lessons always involve the whole body and mind. For beginning students, I typically use a combination of methods. For clarinet teaching, I like to use the Breeze-Easy method and also some materials from the Rubank method books. For intermediate or school-aged students, I like to supplement the material they are learning in school. I like to continue to use Rubank, Klose, and Rose books to continue to develop technique and musicality. For more advanced students or adult learners, I try to cater to the specific interests of the student while continuing to work on improving fundamental skills on the instrument. Read More

I encourage my students to set short as well as long term goals so that they can have a timetable of tangible results as motivators to get to the next level. I always take into consideration the amount of time that we have together (number of lessons per month) in order to reach these goals so I am able to keep everything on track. I like to use method books for beginners. If the student is a little older I may get them on the drumset almost at the begining. I like to use duets and play with all levels of students. my philosophy is "Don't sing for me dance for me", these are lessons and not lectures. Read More
