For beginning students, I start with Michael Aaron and Michael Aaron Music Theory books. The beginner students really enjoy these theory books! I also incorporate Fabers Music Adventures into the lessons. As the student progresses, I begin to introduce pieces appropriate for their levels and tastes. Each student learns and progresses individually and I take that into account when suggesting repertoire for them. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson, acknowledging accomplishments, fueling a students desire to progress, and finding ways to stimulate a students desire to learn more. I have been privately teaching since 2012, primarily teaching high school students in between classes in college. In 2017 I was offered a Graduate Teaching Assistantship from Florida State University, where I was assigned eight students and two saxophone quartets, as well as teaching the saxophone portion of the Woodwind Fundamentals class that was offered. I've been teaching on and off over the past 10+ years. My first experience teaching in a professional setting was at the Royal Academy of Music in Shrewsbury Massachusetts while taking some time off from college. There I taught up to 30 students in any given week. It's also where I branched out and began teaching beginner to intermediate bass guitar, piano, and drums. I believe that variety is the spice of not only life, but also music. I grew up singing folk music with a musical family (think accordions, guitars and lots of vocal harmonies). I learned guitar and piano at an early age and began singing even earlier. My quest to give the world the best my vocal cords could offer led me to obtain an undergraduate degree in vocal performance from the University of Nebraska (where I graduated honorable mention, named with the vocal departments Outstanding Senior in Music award, and also obtained a minor in theatre) and a masters degree in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. I began teaching when I was in High School, where I had several students of varying ages and skill levels.  I taught private lessons in their homes.  I encourage regular practice, and weekly lessons.  A mixture of method books and my own personal written lessons I have found to be the most effective teaching strategy. Books with a variety of popular solos I also utilize.  Method books are necessary for skill, but can get boring and repetitive for younger students.  Keeping things fresh and interesting is my main focus in teaching.
