My teaching experience started in Baltimore, mostly backstage at local band jobs when other drummers would ask how I did certain groves and fills with speed and intensity while giving the band breathing room. I started to notice that the technique the other drummers were referring to was generally based on what I learned from the drummers who influenced me, and I was able to break it down well for those interested in learning more about it. I am passionate about the flute and love sharing that with students. I graduated from James Madison University where I studied with Carol Kniebusch Noe, played four years in the JMU Flute Choir and in the JMU Wind Symphony. I started tutoring students on the flute at a very young age and have done it off and on since then. I like to play with students and encourage performances and help with competitions. When I was in school, I competed in solo and ensemble competitions and also performed in All-State Band and other honor bands. I have performed with concert bands, orchestras, ensembles, and marching bands. I love all kinds of music and find a lot of satisfaction in helping students understand the beauty of the flute. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time for school years, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 17 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument.
