Instruments: Piano Clarinet
For my older students up to adults, I encourage students to practice for a hour everyday. This also helps with memory, passion, and progress. In piano I love to teach jazz, gospel, musicals, and classical. It brings diversity to the class and more fun! I encourage recitals, showcases, and holiday performances to stay in touch with everyday culture and Music. Also to just showcase what our students have been working hard for all year. Read More
Instruments: Cello
From my experience, students vary greatly in musical background, personality, and needs, so I view each new student as a blank slate. My philosophy has always been to patiently build a solid foundation and not rush into advanced pieces at the risk of accumulating bad habits. At the same time, I recognize how important it is to keep learning fun, so I negotiate the balance accordingly. The material I use consists mainly of Suzuki and Rick Mooney's technique books, with other supplementary books and pieces depending on the student's needs. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I consider myself to be both traditional and old school at certain times, however. I firmly believe that students will lose interest in music quickly if I always teach all students the same techniques and follow conventional music theory. After that I really like to use the John Thompson's piano book grade 1, and I have had many good results with my students in the past. Read More

I received a Bachelor degree in Guitar Performance from Catholic University in Washington DC back in 1980. However, my career was in computer programming for the next 30 years. During this time, I continued to improve my Guitar skills and performed at many venues, including weddings, parties, formal events, and concerts, such as those at Brook Side gardens in Wheaton, the Olney Theater, and Afternoon Teas at Strathmore Hall at the Mansion in Bethesda Md. My methods of teaching are primarily based on the individual. Within the first lesson, I make an assessment of the individuals musical abilities, and document the genres of music that interests the student. I then create a curriculum based on that assessment, which includes music theory, building repertoire (including music that interests the student), and music history/literature. I also encourage the student to engage in music competitions/auditions and student recitals. Read More
