My teaching experience began during my undergraduate studies. Instructing privately, I developed exposure teaching classical, electric, and acoustic musical styles. During my assistantship at the Lamont School of music, my teaching resided primarily toward college students. However, I am truly passionate towards working with students of all ages. I fully welcome the new challenges each experience presents. I believe every teacher should recall this wisdom from guitarist Andres Segovia: "To teach is to learn twice." Read More

Through the years, I have compiled sheet music that I wrote out myself of songs that were hard to find/and easier to read. I have hundreds if not thousands of these songs. I start beginner guitar with Neil young songs because they are slow and use basic chords. Also a Pink Floyd song. It has worked for years. From there I teach a Bob Dylan song and sweet home Alabama. For very beginners, I will typically start with a basic method book, such as Hal Leonard to learn the essentials of basic technique. For adults or students with more experience, I will cater my lessons specifically to each students interests and goals as I find that this is the best way to keep students engaged and excited to learn. I teach music theory along with anything we learn in a lesson so the student can apply it to material they are already familiar with and interested in. Read More

The emphasis for these lessons is on pouring your soul into some practical excercises that are applicable to the stage, whether it’s a jazz ensemble, concert band, funk band, wedding group, solo project. What the student puts in, they will receive in return. The exercises will focus largely on tone production (your personality or voice on the horn) and transcription of ideas (to develop real musical vocabulary). With these tools, the sax becomes a vehicle for self expression and an outlet for the audience, things so vital in these current times of turmoil and self doubt. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
I'm a life-long musician and am extremely interested in passing my knowledge on to others. Currently I am a band director in the Pueblo, Colorado area but have lived all over the United States and played trumpet extensively for over 2 decades. I was trained as a trumpet player at DePaul University, UAB, and most recently at the University of Alabama, and also have experience composing and arranging music. I have gigged in Chicago, IL, and in many states throughout the Southeastern United States. Read More

I first find out what songs and styles of music my students are interested in, then determine what methods are best for my students to fulfill their musical goals. Some students have no experience reading music while others may be quite adept. Many of my students have been absolute beginners and it is a great joy to see them develop their skills and their passion! At all levels, I emphasize music fundamentals and developing the ability to read music (especially for guitarists!). Read More
