I have studied several approaches to teaching including Orff, Montessori, and Suzuki. I love to seek out new ways to effectively instruct my students. In music learning, I believe that listening is of utmost importance. One must internalize and interact with the music they hear so that they may develop a concept for what they would like to play. From there, students work with me to allow their musical voice to come through their instrument. Read More

Although I love to perform live, I get the greatest enjoyment from seeing my students progress. I have been teaching private lessons for 30 years and have taught music theory and guitar in the public and charter school systems of Colorado and New Mexico for the past 14 years. Many of my former students are now professional musicians! Read More

As I stated above, I teach from a place of love and encouragement, finding ways to inspire my students to achieve their personal goals. The most important thing for me as an instructor is to help my students to develop a lifelong love and passion for music! So, I tailor my lesson plan for each student based on their own desires and needs. I’m thrilled to meet the student where they are and help them develop a strong technical foundation while encouraging music thought and development. Read More

I use many different methods since I am of the opinion that all methods have their strengths and their weaknesses. For children I typically use the Suzuki method and suplement with exercises and outside repertoire to compensate for the weaknesses in the Suzuki method. I also use the Royal Conservatory method and try to teach its repertoire when the student is at an advance- beginner or intermediate level. Read More

I collaborate with my students to determine their needs and goals. When starting out with beginners, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Strings. I then transition to Suzuki repertoire. I also include music individual to each student based on their interests. My methods are flexible and designed to draw out the strengths of each student. I like to have open communication with my students, and I like to get feedback from my students about where they are at so I can meet them there. Read More

I have fun with my students. They learn to play songs that they want to play, and I provide theoretical and technical instruction within that framework. Learning to play an instrument is a lifelong endeavor which provides both challenge and satisfaction. I'm an active listener and seek to understand each student's needs and goals. Education is a two-way street, and I learn from my students as they learn from me. Read More

I like starting with the song approach. Learning a song you love is a fun process that will keep you motivated to keep learning more. I have a way of simplifying songs so anyone can start playing guitar within a few lessons. I also have a very patient teaching method that my students appreciate. I do refer to a few books by Hal Leonard or Alfred to get the students on the right track. Read More
