For every instrument I teach, I always focus on tone primarily. To have whatever instrument the student is learning, be it drumset, piano, or voice, it is of utmost importance to me to have them re-sounding the whole body of the instrument with confidence, and with passion. When we start from this place, I then work on rudiments/scales, and aim to endow students with basic vocabulary, so that they may become fluent on their instruments. Read More

I strive to create an atmosphere of fun and creativity in my studio. This is done while simultaneously building a strong foundation of technique, posture, and musicality in all of my students, regardless of their age or experience level. I have no personal agenda when instructing. I consider myself merely a means for the student's own personal and musical development. Lesson structure depends on the individual's goals. If the student hopes to nail an audition for a spot in a high school's drumline, then we will work on snare drum technique and concentration during private practice and during performance. Read More

For beginning musicians, I like to start with the very fundamentals of music theory in order to get them comfortable with reading music and understanding what they are doing. Books I have used in the past include the Essential Elements series and the Melodious and Progressive Etude series. I also understand the importance of enjoying what one is playing, so I always urge students find pieces or books for themselves that they are interested in, and incorporate them into my lessons. Instruments: Viola
For beginning students, I primarily use scale cycle, and some of Suzuki Music to start with the ear opening to how the sound or melody work can be done and see how it can be applied from the scale work we do on the technical practice. I try to find what student want from the overall lesson time because that set up the different goal for different student. When the student enters in the intermediate level, I try to find a little longer literature for student to learn in long term goal, and expanding students music literature. Read More

My teaching experience started back when I was a teenager and I provided lessons from my home. I have also taught in my church on occasion. I love seeing kids as well as adults learning to play music as I feel as they get enjoyment out of it just as I did when I first started learning to play. When I teach I like to recommend regular practice not just with kids but with adults as well as it builds progress when they come in for their lessons. Read More

I am a flutist turned conductor turned accompanist who loves to pass on a love for music! My philosophy is to teach of broad spectrum of musical skills, thoery, history and application in order to let the student personalize their love for the arts. I know that it took me a while to decide to be a music major and then even more to decide how I wanted to integrate music into my life - but I had teachers who inspired me to make music a driving force in every area of my life and I want to pass that same love on in my student’s lessons. I started teaching privately close to 20 years ago and it has led me to teach in a variety of settings. I have taught in both public and private school and individual and group lessons. I encourage students to develop a consistent practice schedule and also create very individualized curriculum for students and their musical goals. I keep students motivated by engaging their interests while developing their technique, love of the instrument and musicality. Read More
