I am a Collaborative Piano Fellow at The Aspen Summer Music Festival and Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar. As an instructor, my job is to give the student every opportunity possible to discover their passion for music. The first lesson is always about providing a safe relaxed tone and finding out where that student's progress is. Not establishing an accurate assessment of their progress can be very destructive because it could cause me to come off as either too demanding or condescending. While living in New York, I played in all sorts of groups from Orchestras to Jazz bands to Salsa. With beginner students of all ages, I start with the Elementary Drum Method Book by Roy Burns, Ultimate Realistic Rock Drum Method book by Carmine Appice, and the Drum Rudiment Dictionary by Jay Wanamaker. I am a fan of helping my students learn their favorite songs, and will take time to go over the songs, bar by bar. I believe that regular and consistent practice is one of the most fundamental lessons a student must learn if they expect to gain something from their lessons. I can take students of all ages.
