For the begginer I like to start by exploring and accessing their ability to do anything musical in the drumset while showing them some very basic and familiar drum beats. Shortly after I introduce them to the foundations and building blocks of drum playing through visual, auditive cues as well as introducing music theory knowledge. My methods for teaching involve the topics I learned in my Guitar Technique course. I introduce the CAGED System. Where basic open position chords are moved around the fretboard to cover scale shapes, and arpeggios. This is a great way to map the fretboard, and provide positions to improvise on solos. With this I also blend music theory in which I call the mixture "Fretboard Theory." Theory is what we cover in scales that tell what quality they have, (Major, Minor, ETC). Read More

Depending on the level the student is at I will work with them where they are at and what is needed. If a beginning student I will usually start off with working on scales and use visual tools such as books to help aid the process.
