Music Lessons in Laughlintown, PA

Instruments: Piano Organ

I listen the music which the student has been practicing. Then, I guide him/her to make corrections and enhancements.  I use positive reinforcement to strengthen those parts of the performance, and suggest and demonstrate correct concepts.  Then, after hearing the piece again, decide whether review the assignment or move on.  Playing duets with the student is often part of the process. Doing that helps them feel the true meaning of the music; and also helps make up for a pianist's ordinarily lack of group playing because he usually practices alone. Read More

Instruments: Trombone

My teaching experience includes a few trombone lessons here and there throughout my undergrad, piano tutoring, music history tutoring, and I also helped with my high school's band camp while completing my undergrad. These experiences have helped me to develop my own teaching style as well as learn how to be encouraging while still giving critique to help the student improve. Consistent practice and constructive criticism are some of the most helpful aspects to improve on a musical instrument. Read More

Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar

I have used several tools for instruction including Hal Leonard's Guitar method to acquire the basic techniques and positions. I highly recommend Mary Schwartz's YouTube channel to ALL of my students as a supplement to my classes for a reference on rythm and basic music understanding. After building a solid foundation on standard open chords, posture, and basic chord progressions I go more in depth with scales, arpeggios, and basic music theory including the circle of fifths and song building. Instruments: Piano Voice Flute

I have always focused on teaching each student holistically. I hope to influence students in their discovery of music through various modalities of learning, including visual, auditory, proprio-kinesthitic (movement), with a special focus on audiation. During piano and flute study, we explore the instruments as acoustical marvels and the students' interactions with them. Voice lessons always involve the whole body and mind.
