I have spent the past three years living in Miami where I completed my Masters Degree in music education. During this time I was an active trumpet player in south Florida playing with orchestras, brass bands, jazz groups, and quite regularly latin bands due to the popularity of salsa/latin styles in that region. My Bachelors degree was completed in 2006 at the Univeristy of Delware. If you're a beginner, you were put in a beginning class. this makes it very difficult for students to advance quickly because they aren't playing music with people who are more advanced than them. I make sure the students have the ability to play the instrument before they learn a ton of theory, because knowing how the wrritten form of music work without being able to play them is recipe for frustration.
